To remind you of home is a project undertaken in my third year of study. The project focuses on the relationships between students and sentimental items that bring us comfort when home and family aren't available. The title stems from a conversation I had with my grandmother before leaving for university myself in which she gifted me an item to 'remind me of home'. The project is undertaken in two parts, the first is a series of portraits in which I photograph various students holding the items in question, alongside this is a brief explanation of the item and the story behind why the person chose it. The second part is a number of images created using a flatbed scanner, this method allows the items to be captured in an extremely high resolution image that gives the audience to gain an intimate look at the items, exposing every stain, scratch and markings, each of which tells a story about the object in their own right.
